Resistors are used in electronics circuit to voltage drop means getting desirable output voltage to circuit. The value of resistor is represented by Color codes. These color code is printed on the resistor surface. Different type of color band used in resistor to design different type of resistor value. here describe color coding of resistance and also calculate resistance value using code chart. 

Resistance Color codes chart and band.
This chart is defined the all color code band of resistor for all type of band resistor. Significant is define the color code value for first , second and third Band color of resistor. first, second and third Color Band are used in 6 band and 5 band resistor or first and second  Color Band are used in 3 band and 4 band resistor.  fourth multiply and fifth is tolerance. Tolerance of the  resistor is define the percentage of error between the actual measured value and stated value. Sixth  is temperature coefficient which is used in 6 band resistor and it defined the resistor value change and changing the temperature. 

The colors brown, red, green, blue, and violet are used as tolerance codes on 5-band resistors only. All 5-band resistors use a colored tolerance band. The blank
(20%) “band” is only used with the “4-band” code (3 colored bands + a blank “band”).

Steps For calculation  of  Resistor value.

  1. First you need to check resistor band.
  2. hold the resistor in your hand and read the resistor from left band to right band need to check resistor band .
  3. Starting First, second and third band color are defined the significant value of resistor. these values are given in chart.
  4. Fourth color band is defined the multiplier value so use color and multiply the this value
  5. fifth color band id used for tolerance. it is defined the error between measured value and stated value that means tolerance percentage of error of stated value is consider.
  6. Sixth color band is used for temperature coefficient. 
How to know that which band is first,

  • Some Resistors have stating bands are closed. so hold the resistor in your hand and start  reads the resistor from left side to right side.
  • The resistor can not started from silver and gold band color.

6 band resistor

first band color is  Blue , digit - 6
Second band color is  Brown , digit- 1
third band color is Green , digit -5
fourth band color is  Silver , multiplier value - 0.01
Fifth band color is Blue Tolerance  -  + 0.25%
Sixth band color is Grey Temp Coeff. 1K

The value of resistor =   615X0.01+ 0.25 % = 6.15+ 0.25%, 1K ohm

5 band resistor 
The value of resistor in ohm using chart codes. resistor is given below.
Resistor colored 
first band color is  Blue , digit - 6
Second band color is  Red , digit- 2
third band color is Green , digit -5
fourth band color is  Silver , multiplier value - 0.01
Fifth band color is Blue Tolerance  -  + 0.25%

The value of resistor =   625X0.01+ 0.25 % = 6.25+ 0.25% ohm

4 band resistor
The value of resistor in ohm using chart codes. resistor is given below.
Resistor colored 
first band color is  Orange , digit - 3
Second band color is  Brown , digit- 1
Third band color is  Silver , multiplier value - 0.01
Fourth band color is green Tolerance  -  + 0.5%

The value of resistor =   31X0.01+ 0.5 % = 3.1+ 0.5% ohm

3 band  resistor
The value of resistor in ohm using chart codes. resistor is given below.
Resistor colored 
first band color is  Blue , digit - 6
Second band color is  Brown , digit- 1
Third band color is  Silver , multiplier value - 0.01

The value of resistor =   61X0.01 = 6.15 ohm 20%   
The tolerance always a 20% in 3 band resistor.
